How dare you speak ill of man of God that way? Does anyone else feel like recalling the spoofing of this same act by John Edward and similar psychic tv shows a few years ago? If I have understood it correctly, one of the largest Charismatic groups today is the Catholic Charismatic group. What I speak of here is the rise of Pentecostalism from having no adherents (as we know Pentecostalism today) in 1906 to an estimated 500 million followers today. (Barrett 1982;1999). Contemporary Anabaptist denominations include the Amish, the Mennonites, and the Hutterites.

Both historic Judaism and Christianity provide a more organic way of understanding the Church and its structures of government. The holiness movement goes aground on the rocks of subjectivism, and because of this, it is basically more in harmony with Roman Catholicism than with Protestantism. We may not be in the baby pool any more, but while Pentecostalism has outgrown what was in the eyes of its critics its cultist status, it is not yet in the Olympic Pool.34 It is in the intermediate pool, which is considerably smaller, and it is getting crowded in there.

John spoke of love, and keeping God's commandments; but, he never mentions tongues. Since its small beginnings in the USA, it has spread rapidly to become one of the fastest growing movements in the Catholic Church with a global membership exceeding 150 million today. Now here is my proviso: It is my position that God speaks to me perfectly, by my hearing (and understanding) is not always so good! Pentecostals have difficulty in recognizing the saving value of the Catholic Church and of the sacraments, whereas many Catholics view with suspicion the proliferation of divine interventions and consider the promises of healing, prophecies and spiritual gifts as forms of proselytism.

His periodization of Pentecostal history in Latin America, the changed Catholic and classical Protestant environment, and the prospects for the future are most interesting and will need to be tested by scholars from a variety of disciplines and confessions. But even though these lies and shams are evident, and even if they constitute the majority of the cases, here let me leave then aside and face the reality of the actual presence of some “Spirit” at these sessions.

One of the Charismatics biggest blunders is to try to make something extraordinary ordinary even necessary for all (see above). Today, there are still many leaders that see the Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches as more problematic than productive in their contributions, especially in regards to practical theology. Under these circumstances, "God" is to whom I am spontaneously led to pray. The Foursquare Church is doctrinally corrupt... The word for "tongues" here is "glossa," the same as in Acts 2 and 1st Corinthians 14.

They began to sing, talk about angels, and describe a journey they were making, under spiritual guidance, to heavenly places." (The People Called the Shakers, p152, Edward Deming Andrews) "Finally, on a Sabbath's afternoon in the early spring of 1839, the "work" opened when Philemon Stewart, a member of the Church Order, came into the meeting so agitated that he needed the support of two brethren, and delivered the first direct communication from Jesus and Mother Ann, the sacred parentage of the order...

The initiative lies with laypeople, as is evident in the square or circular arrangement of a typical charismatic meeting. There is no need to confuse our Pentecostal theology with Reformed theology, with its rationalist and subjectivist horizons. This aesthetic is a philosophical horizon of all our genuine theology. I believe we are going to have the latter rain and I am looking forward to it." (Paul Cain, Toronto church on May 28, 1995) Though Branham denied the historic, orthodox view of the Trinity, William Branham was the greatest prophet in the 20th century.

As such they are not a denomination and are considered non denominational. That does not discredit what he has to say below about the errors of the Pentecostal/Charismatic Movement. This movement spread rapidly in the infant Assemblies of God after 1914 and resulted in a schism in 1916, which later produced the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World and the United Pentecostal Church. For instance, 7% of Southern Baptist churches and 6% of mainline churches are charismatic, according to their Senior Pastors.

All of these men retained most of the Wesleyan teaching on entire sanctification as a part of their theological systems. Perhaps the most important immediate precursor to Pentecostalism was the Holiness movement which issued from the heart of Methodism at the end of the Nineteenth Century. We have evidence of this in many places, including 1 Timothy 2:5-6: For there is one God, one mediator also between God and men, himself man, Christ Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all; the testimony to be borne in its own times.
